Quarterly AR review: a 30-minute checklist for finance leads
What to look at every quarter to keep your accounts-receivable book healthy — DSO trends, hardship cohorts, recovery rates, and write-off discipline.
Quarterly AR review: a 30-minute checklist for finance leads
AR drift is silent. By the time the trial-balance number is screaming, you've often missed the leading indicators by months. A 30-minute quarterly review keeps you ahead of it.
The 30-minute version
1. DSO this quarter vs last quarter (5 min). Up by 5+ days? Investigate. Down by 5+? Note what worked.
2. Aging buckets (5 min). Specifically: what's in 60+ days? Has it grown? The long tail is where money goes to die.
3. Hardship cohort (5 min). How many active hardship arrangements? Are they tracking? Any showing missed payments that need outreach?
4. Recovery rate by channel (5 min). Self-service portal vs internal chase vs external recovery — which is performing? Which is dragging?
5. Write-offs (5 min). What did you write off this quarter? What's the pattern? Could earlier intervention have recovered any of it?
6. Action items (5 min). Three concrete things to do this quarter based on the above. Don't let yourself off this step.
What good looks like
- DSO holding steady or improving against your sector benchmark.
- 60+ day bucket as a percentage of total AR is flat or shrinking.
- Hardship completion rate above 60%.
- Recovery rate on the long tail above 50% within 90 days.
- Write-offs trending down quarter over quarter.
Where to delegate the work
The review itself stays with you. The chase, the recovery, the hardship workflow — that's where a platform like Adeva Plus lifts the load. You see the metrics; the platform handles the activity.
